South Africa: German frigate "Baden-Württemberg" (F 222) - Mission: "Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024" (May - December 2024)

This is another cover of german frigate "Baden-Württemberg" on its 2024 "Indo-Pacific Deployment"-Mission. After I got a cover from its port call to Tokyo in August 2024, this comes from the port call to Cape Town, South Africa in late November 2024. As a reminder, the Indo-Pacific Deployment marked a strategic effort by European and allied navies to reinforce maritime security, uphold freedom of navigation, and strengthen partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region.

The cover was posted in Cape Town but was actually postmarked about 1,500 kilometers to the north, near the capital, Pretoria in Tshwane.

South Africa: Johannesburg

Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa. It is the provincial capital of Gauteng, which is the wealthiest province in South Africa. The city was named and established in 1886 following the discovery of gold on what had been a farm. The name is attributed to one or all of three men involved in the establishment of the city. In ten years, the population was 100,000 inhabitants. While Johannesburg is not one of South Africa's three capital cities, it is the seat of the Constitutional Court, which has the final word on interpretation of South Africa's constitution as well as with issues in connection with constitutional matters.
