This cover arrived as part of the cruise "Von Hamburg über Island nach Grönland" (From Hamburg via Iceland to Greenland), a voyage running from 16 July to 2 August 2025 aboard the MS Hamburg. The cover was posted in Qaqortoq (pop. ~3,000). It is the largest town in South Greenland and the administrative centre of the Kujalleq municipality. Its name means "the white place" in Greenlandic. The town's natural harbour makes it a regular call for expedition cruise ships traversing the West Greenland coast. Besides the regular postmark, the cover shows four cachets applied on board the MS Hamburg, all in blue ink.

Greenland: Karupelv Valley Project 2025
As a reminder: Karupelv Valley Project is an ongoing, long term research project in North-East Greenland. It is jointly carried out under the auspices of the University Freiburg (GER) and the Groupe de Recherche en Ecologie Arctique (F). Its main objective is to provide new insights into the processes that govern cyclic fluctuations of lemming populations in high-arctic ecosystems. The project in 2025 continues its field work: monitoring lemming populations and predators, and studies on the effects of global climate change. I'm very happy to receive the nice cover below set up by project leader Dr. Benoît Sittler, thanks a lot!

Greenland: Narsarsuaq
Narsarsuaq is a settlement in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland. It had 123 inhabitants in 2020. There is a thriving tourism industry in and around Narsarsuaq, whose attractions include a great diversity of wildlife, gemstones, tours to glaciers, and an airfield museum. In 1941 the United States built an air base at Narsarsuaq code-named Bluie West One (BW1). (Bluie was the Allied military code name for Greenland.) Thousands of planes used BW1 as a stepping stone on their way from the aircraft factories in North America to the battlegrounds of Europe. The importance of the airport can also be seen by the runway in the cancellation of Narsarsuaq. But the airport is due to be closed in late 2026 when Qaqortoq Airport is scheduled to open.

Greenland: Alluitsup Paa
Alluitsup Paa is a small settlement in southern Greenland, located in the Kujalleq municipality. It lies along the coast of the north atlantic. Traditionally a fishing and hunting community, the village has a rich Inuit heritage. Most towns and settlements in southern Greenland exhibit negative growth patterns over the last two decades, with many settlements rapidly depopulating. Alluitsup Paa has been losing population faster than most of its neighbors; its population decreased over 40% between 2000 and 2010 and was around 202 ind 2020. To note this cover was cancelled on the last day of the village post office operation.

Greenland: First Day In School
Like in Germany, also in Greenland the first day of school is something very special, a day of celebration for the whole family. Lisbeth Karline (Stamp-Designer) has very beautifully illustrated this event with children dressed in national costume.
I sent this cover to myelf from Daneborg. Daneborg (or Daneborg Station) is a station on the south coast of Wollaston Foreland peninsula of northeast Greenland, at the mouth of Young Sund emptying into Greenland Sea. Daneborg serves as the headquarters for the SIRIUS Patrol, the dog sled patrollers of the Northeast Greenland National Park, the largest national park in the world.
